Message From Our Principal

Hello Sacajawea families,

We are very proud of all the teams from Sacajawea who participated in the Global Reading Challenge. Now in its 28th year, the Global Reading Challenge is a joint reading incentive program by the Seattle Public Library and SPS. Fourth and Fifth graders enrolled in SPS, of all reading abilities, read the books together and teamed up for trivia competitions.

This year’s books included Rabbit Chase, JD and the Great Barber Battle, Power Forward, Planet Omar, Accidental Trouble Magnet, Stef Taco, Taco Queen, The Legend of Auntie Po, Spirit Hunters: Island of Monsters, and Amari and the Night Brothers.

Sacajawea held an in house trivia competition to determine the representative who moved on the next round. These teams were the Spicy Beans at Midnight, The Glowing Stars, Salty Sea Monkeys, Orange Oranges, and the Screeching Pizzas of Insanity. The Screeching Pizzas of Insanity edged out the other teams and advanced to compete against other schools teams at the downtown Seattle Public Library location. When the dust had settled and the points were tallied the Screeching Pizzas of Insanity took third place!

Congratulations to all the fourth and fifth graders who participated and thank you to our librarian Mr. Harvey and all the other adults who helped our teams prepare.

Additionally, I am very pleased to announce that we have contractors who currently are working on fixing the leaking roof. Thank you to all of you who reached out to help make this much needed repair work happen.

In partnership,
Barry Fisk
