A Message from our principal

Hello Sacajawea families,

Wednesday December 6th is our next Spirit Day. The Theme is Buddy Day. Students are encouraged to dress like the students in their buddy classroom or choose one peer to dress like. I had the pleasure of visiting our fourth and fifth graders on Bainbridge Island. They are attending the outdoor school and camp at  IslandWood. I joined them for a day and had  an amazing time learning alongside them about nature and the legacy of indigenous communities caring for the land here in the Puget Sound region of the Pacific Northwest.

In Partnership,

Barry Fisk (he/him)

Top Items & Upcoming Events

  • A BIG thank you to everyone who helped out and attended the Harvest Heritage Potluck! The Equity team was so grateful for all the help setting up and taking down, and the amazing spread of dishes brought to celebrate the evening. It was a special evening once again demonstrating what an incredible community we have at Sacajawea; thank you for being part of it!
  • Join an event on school funding in Washington State at 7-8:30pm on December 4th at Thornton Creek Elementary. Sacajawea parents/caregivers are warmly invited to attend and learn (note it is an adult-only event).
  • Our Virtual Book Fair with Third Place Books has started! It runs through December 1st and if you use our code SEBF23 then 20% of all sales will go directly to the school and support rebuilding our library selection.
  • Family Support is still accepting donations of grocery gift cards – donate to Family Support – grocery gift cards. Our PTA will generously match all donations up to $2000 towards more gift cards to help feed our community.
  • We are also accepting coat donations via Signup to donate coats.

PTA Updates and Volunteering Requests

Volunteers Make Things Happen at Sacajawea. We Need You! So many wonderful things happen at our school because of our dedicated group of parents, grandparents and community members. We have various PTA committees, school needs and event help to fit any schedule. Detailed descriptions are on our PTA volunteering page.

1. Lunch and Recess Support – A fun glimpse into the daily life of your student! Help with lunchroom and playground supervision 11 a.m. – 12:05 p.m. Once a week, once a month or whenever you are able.  We could use more help on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Please note: on-campus volunteers and field trip chaperones will need a background check. Apply or update your volunteer profile on the SPS Volunteering page.

If you have any questions or are interested, please contact Volunteer Coordinator, Charlene Shanahan cyshanahan@seattleschools.org.
