A Message from our principal

Hello Sacajawea families,

Our new Student Council members introduced themselves at this week’s assembly. We will meet every other Wednesday during lunch to look at student suggestions and brainstorm ideas for making Sacajawea the best it can be for all our students. Additional opportunities for student voice and leadership include the Recess Crew which has been meeting to write agreed upon rules for playing Four Square at recess. Additionally,
Library Leaders will be starting up soon.

In partnership,

Barry Fisk Principal, Sacajawea Elementary

  • Move-a-Thon is Tomorrow! We still need volunteers to help  and it’s not too late to sign up!
  • Join us for the Heritage Potluck on Thurs, November 16 from 5:30-7:30 in the cafeteria. Sign up to bring a dish and help out.
  • Need grocery or food assistance? Contact ksmurphy@seattleschools.org to receive one bag of food per child per week.
  • Family support is also accepting $25 QFC gift cards. Our usual allotment of grocery assistance has been cut in half for this year, and our need is much larger. Thank you for any help you can provide! Contact ksmurphy@seattleschools.org
  • Looking to volunteer in school? Get approved now! Volunteering at school or chaperoning field trips requires an SPS approval process. Apply early using the SPS volunteering page as it can take two weeks. Contact Charlene Shanahan cyshanahan@seattleschools.org for questions. We currently need help with Packs for Kids, lunchroom helper, and equity team.

Volunteering Requests

Volunteers Make Things Happen at Sacajawea. We Need You! So many wonderful things happen at our school because of our dedicated group of parents, grandparents and community members. We have various PTA committees, school needs and event help to fit any schedule. Detailed descriptions are on our PTA volunteering page.

  1. Equity Team Members – Do you share our goal of creating an actively anti-racist school community where everyone is respected and welcomed?  Are you interested in working with school and PTA leaders to promote racial equity at Sacajawea?  Our Parent Racial Equity Team is looking for members to participate in monthly meetings and focus on bringing an equity perspective to Sacajawea events, activities and learning.
  2. Packs for Kids – Our Packs program supports families who could use some extra help with food over the weekends and breaks.  We’d love to add a few more team members to organize grocery bags in the school cafeteria on Friday mornings from 9:45 – 10:45 am, to be able to alternate weeks and have flexibility in schedules.
  3. Lunch and Recess Support – A fun glimpse into the daily life of your student! Help with lunchroom and playground supervision 11 a.m. – 12:05 p.m. Once a week, once a month or whenever you are able.

Please note: on-campus volunteers and field trip chaperones will need a background check. Apply or update your volunteer profile on the SPS Volunteering page.

If you have any questions or are interested, please contact Volunteer Coordinator, Charlene Shanahan cyshanahan@seattleschools.org.
