Sacajawea School Leader Update
Dear Sacajawea Elementary community,
I am pleased to announce that based on the feedback from the community, staff, and district leadership Barret (Barry) Fisk has been appointed as the next principal of Sacajawea Elementary.
Principal Fisk has been supporting the Sacajawea Elementary School Community for most of the 2021-22 School Year as an acting principal. Prior to serving in the role of acting principal, Mr. Fisk was an assistant principal in Federal Way at both the K-5 and K-8 levels. Mr. Fisk completed his admin internship at Sacajawea during the 2017-18 school year and served as a math interventionist at Olympic Hills Elementary and as a teacher and teacher leader at Whittier Elementary in Seattle.
Mr. Fisk has been recommended for appointment as principal of Sacajawea because of his commitment to excellent instruction and his collaboration with staff and stakeholders in the pursuit of educational equity for the students of Sacajawea, especially for students of color furthest from educational justice and students receiving special education services.
Principal Fisk’s leadership will help support 180 Days of Excellence during the 2022-23 school year. At Sacajawea Elementary and across SPS, we have returned to full-time and in-person learning with a focus on providing high-quality learning for all, creating a culture of care for students and staff, and responding to the needs of our students and school communities.
I also want to thank Rachel Friesen for her leadership and service in Seattle Public Schools, including the last eight years as principal of Sacajawea Elementary. During her time at Sacajawea, Principal Friesen has been an advocate for special education inclusion, increasing collaboration among staff, and empowering student voice. We wish her great success as she begins her next endeavor outside Seattle Public Schools.
We are excited to have Principal Fisk join Seattle Public Schools. Please join me in welcoming Barry Fisk as the next principal of Sacajawea Elementary.
Dr. Brent Jones
