    A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

    Dear Sacajawea Community,

This year, the holiday season may look very different than usual, but we still have much to be thankful for. I’m thankful to be a part of the wonderful Sacajawea Community.  I’m glad I get to work with our children, families and staff every day. Even though we are mostly seeing each other on screens, we are still a loving place (or online space) for children to learn and grow. Thank you for all you do as part of this caring community school!

With Governor Inslee’s new restrictions, and rising Covid-19 numbers, I am rethinking some of the procedures and timing of our December distribution day.  I am planning ways to lower the number of people at Sacajawea at a given time, and minimize contact between all of us when we are at school.  We still plan to distribute materials the week of November 30th through December 4th.  I will send out a separate communication with the schedule and procedures in the next few days.

What I do matters, what you do matters.  Mask up and stay safe!

    Rachel Friesen, Principal

    Volunteering makes a BIG Difference

Volunteering benefits our students, creates community, strengthens relationships with teachers and staff and makes you feel good!
    • Research shows that students who receive direct support from volunteer tutors achieve higher grades, test scores, and are more likely to graduate.
    • When volunteers provide clerical support to staff, educators have more time for instruction and individualized support for students working to meet academic standards.
    • Volunteers make programs supporting lowest-income students possible: Friday food backpacks preventing weekend hunger, school supply drives, etc.
You can apply, renew or update applications at www.seattleschools.org/volunteer.  New this year are Remote Volunteer categories!

Here are some ways to get involved: If you can help fill any needs or have questions about volunteering, please contact Volunteer Coordinator, Charlene Shanahan:cyshanahan@seattleschools.org.
