    Information for Families

    Bus Transportation

If your child is eligible for bus transportation, you will receive information from Seattle School District by mid-August. Make sure you know your child’s pick-up/drop-off schedule and locations. If you have questions, changes, or have not received a schedule by mail by the end of August, call Transportation at 252-0900.

    Building Entrances

During the school day, adults must enter our building through the east entrance.  Please stop at the school office, sign in and get a visitor or volunteer badge.

If your child will be absent or tardy, please email or phone the school office. The school office (not your child’s teacher) should be notified about any absences due to illness or appointments.

    Before School Supervision

Students are supervised on the Upper Playground only before school, between 7:40 and 7:55.  Students are not allowed on the Lower Playground before school.

    Late Arrival / Leaving Early

When arriving late the student must report to the office for a tardy slip. When leaving early the parent or guardian must come to the office first, sign the student out and take the dismissal slip to the teacher.

    Prompt Arrival at School

Please make every effort to have your student to school on time.  There is a new District policy in place to count academic subject minutes lost to tardiness; a certain number of minutes lost due to student lateness will result in truancy action.

    Sick Days

When in doubt, please don’t mask the symptoms with medication and send students to school. Children should not return to school until twenty-four hours after a bout of fever, diarrhea or vomiting.

    Medication at School

The school needs authorization from your child's doctor in order to administer medications, even over-the-counter medications. Call the school for guidance. Our nurse will work with you to get the required paperwork done. The law requires both parent and physician signatures.  School nurse:  252-5557.

Head lice are common and we take all precautions to prevent their spread.  Please notify the school office if you are treating your child for head lice so we can notify other parents in your child's classroom (anonymously, of course).

When needed, the school nurse or a parent will check all heads in a classroom. If a child is found to have lice, we notify the parent asking them to treat the child that evening and to check for nits daily for several weeks.

Plan Ahead and Talk About It

Please establish a clear plan for where your child goes after school and have a conversation about it if it changes from his/her regular routine.  Please notify the school office by noon if after school plans are changing and a child needs to be notified.

    Green Bus Cards

A green bus card allowing a student to ride the bus home with another student requires either a parent note or a phone call to the school office.

We love all of our volunteers and visitors--thank you in advance for all that you do for our school.  Please click here for information about new requirements for Seattle Public Schools volunteers.

    School Phone & Voice Mail

The school telephones are to be used by students for emergencies only. Please instruct your child to always leave a voice mail if they call from the classroom, so you will know the reason for the call.

    Food Service

    Please see Nutrition Services

    Picking Up/Dropping off Students

When dropping off students in the morning approach from the north on 20th Ave NE and stop your car at the island. Supervision is provided in this area 15 minutes before school starts.

When picking up students by car in the afternoon, please use 17th Ave NE (the west side of the school). Supervision is provided in this area for 10 minutes after school ends.

    School Messenger System

This system is used by the District and schools to communicate by email to our families.  All of our communications that are sent by email will also be posted on this web site.  Principal Friesen will also be sending out Twitter updates.

    Lost and Found

Please LABEL everything! (clothing, backpacks, lunch boxes, etc.). Marked items brought to the Lost and Found are returned to students. The Lost and Found is located in the hallway. Unclaimed items are given to a charitable organization during winter break and at the end of the school year.

    Our Neighbors

Please be respectful of our neighbors and do not park in front of their driveways or mailboxes.  When using NE 98th St on your way to school, please remember that it is one-lane traffic only.

Photos Taken at School Events and Social Media

We ask parents and other family members to use judgment and discretion when posting pictures of students on social media.  If you post a picture of your child and another student also appears in the photo, please ask permission from that child's parent before you post.
